SETI only needs $5 million - otherwise it will shut down for lack of funding. With all the multi-millionaires and billionaires out there, none of them were willing to step up and fund this? I don't understand why rich people seem to hoard and protect their fortunes in these "modern" days. There are people so rich, they will never ever be able to spend it in their life times. Yet still, they hoard.

After decades, SETI has produced absolutely nothing. With all the suffering right here on Earth, why would you expect those evil rich to ignore the causes that actually help humanity and instead watch for signals from ET?
ReplyDeleteThat's a valid question, but the same question was asked about the Apollo space program. Not many people can argue that the space program was not beneficial. My response would be that a few decades worth of research is nothing. Just consider how long it took for the human race to figure out that the world is not flat, nor does the sun revolve around the planet.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I think humanity is incapable of helping ourselves. My hope is that maybe, just maybe, contact with another species will lead to the type of profound change our civilization requires in order to survive.
